The Park Project Program

Grow the future with Kalamazoo Friends of Recreation

What is The Park Project Program?

The Park Project Program gives those most familiar with Kzoo’s parks (our amazing Kzoo Parks staff) the opportunity to implement improvements they would like to see in our parks.

Why is KFOR investing in park improvements?

Kalamazoo Friends of Recreation has always been a strong supporter of Kalamazoo youth and ensuring they have safe and equitable access to all Kzoo Parks has to offer. We believe that investing in the parks is one more way to support Kalamazoo youth, and what is good for Kalamazoo youth is great for Kalamazoo!

Not only does this new program serve to benefit the parks and all those who use them, it also serves as a professional development opportunity for the Kzoo Parks’ team. Those that choose to participate will be able to gain valuable experience from completing the application, project management, working with partners, and implementing their change.

Check out this session’s improvements!

Project 1

Installation of a gutter and rain barrel system on our Parks storage barn.

The rain water collected will be used to hand water flowers at several parks throughout the City.

Project 2

Installation of a new fence along a pickleball and basketball court at Henderson Tot Lot.

Henderson Tot Lot was renovated approximately five years ago, but due to budget limitations, this fence was not able to be part of that project.

The newly installed fence will increase safety by preventing balls from leaving the playing surface and immediately rolling into the road. With the park intended for mostly youth participation, this safety measure will be a welcome addition.
